Why are you thankful?
We can't let this season pass by without listing our reasons why we love our dark and lovely locks so much. No matter what the season is, your hair color has a wonderful contrast, especially in autumn. So why not list the reasons why you are proud of your dark locks?
Here are 7 reasons why I am thankful for my dark and lovely locks!
1. Brown hair shades can go with any season or color.
Especially Autumn. You can wear anything any season. From colorful Autumn, to icy winter, flowery spring to fiery summer, your hair looks good any season, any color! And that’s a plus!
2. Brown hair shades vary on a wide scale
Despite the fact that there are around 70% of people in the US who have dark strands (if you also include those with black hair), our brunette hair shades vary on a wider scale than any other hair color. Anywhere from bronde to black-brown, the various shades of brunette hair are unlimited and truly gorgeous! It is estimated that around 11% of the world’s population has brown hair (not including black) which Europeans and non-semitic middle Eastern people have in common. Beauty is beauty, no matter how common or uncommon your hair shade is. I am thankful I have a beautiful hair shade that goes well with my skin tone and eye color. Check out the 25 unique brown hair shades that will knock your socks off.
3. Dark hair paired with light skin stands out in a crowd.
And brown hair with light skin is truly eye popping. Dark hair + light skin combination may have some appeal in the way they stand out in striking contrast to each other. Only Caucasians and part Caucasians can have this combination of dark hair and light skin. It is a rarer combo and exotic in nature. Read more about why brown hair and light skin is considered to be attractive.
4. Brunettes "walk in beauty, like the night..."
We are seen as mysterious and exotic. Unlike blonde hair, dark hair reflects more light. If blondes are day, brunettes are night (yes, that rhymes). Seasonally, blondes are spring and summery, and brunettes are autumn and wintry. Our BrownieLocks celebration day is in November, after all. So mark your calendar for Nov. 24th!
5. OOH, SO HEALTHY
Thick, glossy strands go a long way toward making hair look healthy—even when it's not. "Because the hairs are thicker naturally, dark hair is better at camouflaging damage than light hair; it weighs down flyaways and split ends," notes Adrian Wallace, senior colorist at Rita Hazan Salon in NYC.
6. THE FULLNESS!
Natural blondes have more hairs, but true-born black and brunette strands are thicker in diameter, says hairstylist Jordan Blackmore, co-owner of Three Squares Studio in NYC and cofounder of S. Oil hair care. 7. That shine!
Another win for the dark side: Whether natural or dyed, brown and black hair appear more lustrous. "Lighter strands tend to be more hollow, absorbing light instead of reflecting it," explains colorist Bekie Raynard of San Francisco's Barrow Salon.
